The Woodhull Freedom Foundation is an American non-profit organization founded in 2003 that advocates sexual freedom as a fundamental human right. The organization is based in Washington, D.C., United States. Woodhull Freedom Foundation has filed a Lawsuit against FOSTA and the Fight for Internet Freedom.

FOSTA - the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act is a House Bill to cut down on illegal sex trafficking online.

The bills pokes a huge hole in a famous and longstanding “safe harbor” rule of the internet: Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act. That holds that “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.” But FOSTA creates an exception to Section 230 that means website publishers would be responsible if third parties are found to be posting ads for prostitution — including consensual sex work — on their platforms.

The Lawsuit advocates for the right to engage in consensual sexual activity and opposes all forms of human coercion. It absolutely support appropriately targeted and effective measures to end sex trafficking but also believes that FOSTA also chills online expression about sexual topics and encourages massive self-censorship by internet platforms.

The Woodhull Freedom Foundation is bringing this suit because of their concern with the harmful impact on those people whose access to information and communication has been cut off.

Woodhull, along with the other plaintiffs, are represented by Bob Corn-Revere and Ronald London, of Davis Wright TremaineElectronic Frontier FoundationDaphne Keller, and Lawrence G. Walters, of Walters Law Group.
