Book Review: Conscious Cock, the empowered sexuality manual for men

If you’re looking for a sex-positive way to approach masculinity and sexuality, especially in the wake of the #MeToo movement, then this book is for you.

Conscious Cock is a poignantly written book by Kristopher Lovestone on becoming aware of our emotions, communication, and relational skills and understanding of how women work and experience arousal with modern sex education and perspectives so that we can achieve true relationships and love-life satisfaction.

Masculinity that heals

The book gives men tools to honor their sexual nature and connect deeply with their female partner while deconstructing oppressive patterns that are toxic to relationship success. It not only fosters honesty and integrity but harmony and healing in heterosexual relationships.

Kristopher Lovestone, a relationship and sex educator, and men’s empowerment facilitator himself has borrowed from successful practices that he has implemented with his wife to navigate through a journey that promotes equality and respect.

Empowering masculinity

What I liked is the focus on empowering masculinity, the kind that honors connections mindfully, and not the masculinity that promotes violence, apathy, desperation, oppression, and lack of connect to self.

Divided into five main sections, namely 1) Installing Some Upgrades 2) Understanding Your Partner 3) Increasing Your Sex Education 4) Stoking the Fire in Your Relationship 5) Improving Your Sex Technique, it builds a system of navigating through blockages to reveal a better, aware you. The book also comes with worksheets, exercises, and links to free videos, such as a short course on ejaculation control, a video on ‘The 6 Rules of Consent’, etc. to help you put the advice to practice.

It offers a refreshing alternative to mainstream narratives of what relationships should look like, and what roles do men encompass in the same, while also opening up avenues to understand your partner better. All in all, I feel that it is a truly sex-positive and mature book for anyone looking to alleviate their path of growth and to navigate through the most confusing aspects of dating and sexuality.
